Fast-food giants are rapidly deploying more order kiosks in the US. AdvertisementMajor US fast-food chains plan to aggressively add more digital order kiosks to their restaurants – and bring in bigger checks in the process. They make up "well over" half of its in-restaurant orders at these locations, CFO Katie Fogertey told investors in November. As well as labor savings, kiosk orders "tend to skew to dine-in" and thus use less packaging than other digital orders, she said. In the US, digital orders currently make up just 15% of Burger King's sales.

Shake Shack first began experimenting with kiosks in 2017 when it debuted its first kiosk-only store in New York City. Kiosks encourage premium drink ordersAt Shack Shack, Garutti and Fogerty said kiosks have boosted profits in other ways beyond labor. Kiosks are also helping Shake Shack stores to enhance hospitality, a core mission among all Meyer-founded restaurants. For about a year, Fogerty said Shake Shack workers in some stores have been redeployed to run food to tables instead of having customers respond to buzzers.

Like Chuck Berry's guitar, Lewis' piano was essential in shaping rock 'n' roll in the mid-1950s. "Jerry Lee thinks that Jerry Lee is too wicked to be saved." His young son Steve Allen Lewis drowned in 1962 and another son, Jerry Lee Jr., died in a 1973 car accident at 19. In his later years he settled down but biographer Rick Bragg recalled interviewing Lewis for his 2014 book "Jerry Lee Lewis: His Own Words." "I don't think Jerry Lee Lewis had to exaggerate his life one bit to make it interesting," Bragg told the Atlanta Constitution Journal.
